my favorite room

Declaring my all-time favorite room design is kind of like trying to pick one favorite dessert – it’s just not possible.  If you know me, you know that’s true.  But, I think I can actually say it – this room is the most amazing, well-balanced, free-spirited but well-thought-out rooms I have seen in a long long time.  And it’s my favorite.

Of course, it’s the work of the one and only Emily Henderson, designed for Bri Emery of Design Love Fest.  I’ve followed Emily since her first day on the first season of Design Star (AND I totally called it that she would win!), and the rest is history – our friendship is going strong, she’s just not totally aware of it yet.
Anyways.  The reason I love this room so much is because it’s one of those few spaces that  gracefully walks the fine line of impeccable styling that is still approachable and seems effortless.

You totally want to go plop down on that sofa, don’t you?  The thing I hate most about a living room is one in which I feel I can’t sit – isn’t that the whole point?  What I love most about Emily is that time and time again, she manages to put together a room from corner to corner, without missing one small detail, with that whole “oh this old thing? I just threw it together” attitude.  But, if you actually read her blog, she’s very honest about the fact that it’s quite the contrary, and it’s never just “thrown together”.

This room kind of captures you; forcing you to stop a moment and study it.  Every time I look at these photos I notice something new.  There’s a great mixture of materials and textures –  shiny golds, matte brass, soft linens, bold patterns and a really great moroccan shag rug.  There is plenty of color without one color dominating the room, and an interesting mix decorative accents; everything from ceramic vases and gold chairs in domes (love that!), to weathered leather poufs and a piñata tucked away (yup – it’s in there somewhere).  Oh yeah, and about 10,000 plants, which, again, if you know me, you know that the more flowers and foliage, the better.

So, I’m dying to know, what’s your favorite element of this room?  If I’m calling out piñatas, anything is fair game.

xo, stephanie
